  • Y3/4 athletics

    Mon 20 Nov 2023 Mr B

We took a team of Y3/4 athletes to Garforth Academy to participate in the Sports Hall athletics competition last week. They all worked hard to practice their events and we were really proud to finish third! Well done to everyone involved!

  • Key Stage 1 Inspire

    Sat 04 Nov 2023 Mr B

Last week, we held our first Inspire mornings of the new year, for Key Stage 1. Thank you so much to all those parents, carers and grandparents who were able to make time to attend. We chose to focus on phonics and reading and we know from the comments received that the sessions were really helpful! A small sample of the feedback received can be seen here.

After the events were so popular last year, this year, each class will have two Inspire events, with a focus on one of our big school improvement drives, oracy, planned for the second half of the year.

  • Halloween Disco

    Fri 27 Oct 2023 Mr B

Thank you to all the staff and parents/grandparents who helped us with our Halloween Disco yesterday. We had lots of fun and some of the costumes were incredible!

  • Reading Buddies

    Fri 27 Oct 2023 Mr B

Yesterday we held our half-termly 'Reading Buddies' event, where our younger children pair up with our older children to share books together. It is always lovely to walk around school when Reading Buddies is happening. Not only is it brilliant to see the children sharing their reading skills and love of books with each other, but the way our older children work so kindly and considerately with our younger children always makes us proud!

  • New year September and October 2023

    Wed 25 Oct 2023 Mr B

We have had a wonderful first half-term back in school! As well as all the brilliant work that has happened already in the classrooms, there have been a few exciting additional activities too.

We have taken Y5/6 boys, Y5/6 girls and mixed Y3/4 football teams to tournaments at Garforth Academy, competing against other schools. It was fantastic to be able to have so many children who were keen to represent school, from those who play for teams outside school every weekend to some who had never played football before. One of our girls' teams reached their semi-final.

We also took a small number of Y5/6 children to the Concorde Inter-Faith Peace Service at the Town Hall, where they gave readings about peace. Several members of the public made an effort to tell Mrs Mumby how exceptionally well our children spoke! This made us even more proud, as oracy is one of our main school priorities this year.

Our Foundation Stage children have been making use of our new classroom kitchen area, making delicious treats including cheese straws, pumpkin soup and pitta pizzas. We are looking forward to other phases in school getting the benefit of this new resource over the course of the year.

On Thursday 19th October, Key Stage One presented their harvest festival to parents. This included showcasing poetry they had learned, artwork produced with natural materials, and songs.

As part of their science learning, our Year 5/6 children had a chance to dissect some pigs' hearts. This helped them see first hand the different parts of the heart, and to engage in some real, practical science work.

We look forward to an ever-increasing variety of activities which will be available for or children as the year progresses!

  • Y6 leavers

    Wed 26 Jul 2023 Mr B

We were sorry to say goodbye to our Year 6 cohort on the final day of term. They have been such a great group of children. I know the staff will miss them very much. Equally, it is good to know all of them are ready for their move to high-school, which reflects on a job well done to prepare them by all the staff and families in our Strawberry Fields community.

Good luck Y6 (Y7!!!), you will certainly be missed and we wish you nothing but happiness and success in the future!

  • Porridge

    Wed 26 Jul 2023 Mr B

Our Y5/6 children put on their end-of-year show in July. It was called Porridge, and told the story of crime, corruption and the constabulary in fairy-tale land, where things are not all they seem!

The children were truly incredible! The Y5 chorus sang the songs with such enthusiasm and with huge smiles on their faces. Some of the Y6s even volunteered for solos, which were performed beautifully. The acting was exceptional. Even those sitting at the back of a crowded hall heard every word, but it wasn't just about volume - the delivery of the lines, the comic timing and the acting that went along with it was wonderful.

It was fantastic to see how confident the children are - some of whom really surprised us with their confidence and talents! Staff and parents alike were amazed to see what some of the children were capable of. How much these children have grown in their time with us is a real testament to the children, their families and the staff at Strawberry Fields.

The show was genuinely wonderful! Congratulation to all the children, and thank you very much to all the Y5/6 staff who worked so hard to make it happen!

  • End of year sport events

    Wed 26 Jul 2023 Mr B

We were keen to give our departing Y6 children one last chance to represent the school in football. In June, we took a squad of Y5/6 girls to take part in a three way tournament at Ninelands, playing against teams from Ninelands and East Garforth. All matches were close! We ended with three draws (0-0, 0-0, 1-1) and a narrow defeat (1-0). Our goal was scored by Zara. We sincerely hope our Y6s take the chance to carry on playing next year at the Academy, and our Y5s continue to represent Strawberry Fields.

In July, it was the turn of the boys. We took two Y6 teams to Ninelands to play parallel fixtures. One team won 4-0, with a hat-trick from Ethan and a goal from Alfie, whilst our other team lost 2-0.

Finally, we took 6 children from each year group in Key Stage 2 to Garforth Academy for the inter-school athletics. We came third on the day, and we were really proud of the effort, resilience and attitude displayed.

As ever, more important than winning or losing is the behaviour and attitude shown and as usual, we were proud of all our children at all these events. There will be lots more opportunities to compete for the school next year, and good luck in your sporting endeavours in the future to all those who finished at Strawberry Fields this time.

  • Careers Fair and MP visit

    Fri 30 Jun 2023 Mr B

Today we held our careers fair. We were lucky to be visited by a range of people with different jobs, including police officers, a local cafe owner, a physiotherapist, a speech therapist, representatives from Unilever and Tesco, an actor, a project manager in construction and pharmacist.

All the children from Years 1 - 6 visited the hall to chat to our visitors. They had lots of interesting questions and found out lots about some different careers. They were curious and respectful and our visitors had a great time. We are very grateful to them for giving up their time to visit us.

In the afternoon, we were visited by our local MP Alec Shelbrooke. He was given a tour of the school by our school council leaders, and then met a selection of children from right across school who had prepared some questions. It was brilliant for the children to be able to meet their local representative and learn a little about how government works in our country. Again, we were grateful to Mr Shelbrooke for taking the time to visit our school.

  • Y6 residential

    Fri 30 Jun 2023 Mr B

We returned to the Weardale Adventure Centre last weekend for our Year 6 residential. The children took part in rock climbing, archery tag, raft building and a river walk, as well as an evening camp fire and scavenger hunt. There was also lots of time for playing ball games in the big fields and spending time with their friends. We had a brilliant time and the children were exemplary, as ever.
