  • Eco-Council

    Tue 15 Feb 2022 Mr B

Our eco-council have been particularly busy over the past two weeks. We spent lots of time last Friday planting trees for a hedgerow along our back fence. This included taking back some of the grass that had grown around the trees we had planted in 2019, and putting in some new ones.

Today, we visited Refill and Go on Garforth Main Street. The children really enjoyed finding out about ways we can shop more sustainably to cut down on single-use plastic, and some amazing, creative products that are kind to the environment. We can't wait to try out the 'Fix-It Stick' at our next meeting!

  • People Who Help Us Week

    Tue 15 Feb 2022 Mr B

Last week, our Foundation Stage children had a great time thinking about 'People Who Help Us'. This included a visit from a firefighter and some police officers. The children enjoyed learning about all the different people around us who work to help us and keep us safe.

  • Holocaust Museum Visit

    Thu 10 Feb 2022 Mr B

Last week, our Year 5/6 children went on our first school trip for two years. We visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum to enhance their learning about World War Two and the terrible treatment of Jews and other minorities in Hitler's Germany.

The children were fascinated to watch a video of a holocaust survivor, telling their story of how they were saved by the 'Kindertransport' - the refugee programme which allowed thousands of Jewish children to reach safety in the UK. They also learned about how Hitler's persecution of the Jews developed through the thirties, and how it felt in the eyes of Jewish children of a similar age to them.

We could not have been prouder of our children, who accessed these difficult subjects appropriately and respectfully.
