  • Y5/6 cricket

    Tue 29 May 2018 Mr. B
On Monday 21st May we took two teams to a cricket competition with other local schools. Our teams were both excellent - crucially, all our overs were bowled overarm, something on which we had been working for a few days! One of our teams won both their matches comfortably and will now compete in the local finals on June 6th. Although our other team lost in both games, it was great to be able to introduce more children the game of cricket and for the children to leave with their confidence enhanced. Well done to all the children involved.
  • News round up

    Tue 29 May 2018 Mr B

The finals few days of term were filled with all kinds of exciting events!

    Y3/4 Light and Dark work

On Friday 18th May, Y3/4 transformed our hall into a European Cafe and took the opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic work they have produced as part of their 'Light and Dark' topic.  A large number of parents and carers attended. Thank you to the Y3/4 staff and children for working so hard to create this event and the work included in it - as a school, we were extremely proud. It was brilliant!

    Brownlee Foundation Triathlon

Some of our Y5 children attended the Brownlee Foundation 'mini triathlon' at the John Smeaton Leisure Centre on Monday 21st May. The event required the children to swim 30m, cycle 800m and run 300m. All the children came back raving about the experience and we are now considering how to ensure more children can access this event next year.

    Debating

On Tuesday 22nd May, five of our Year 4 children went to East Garforth Primary School for a debating competition held amongst the local schools. The format of the competition involved the children being put into mixed teams and working alongside children from other primary schools they had not met before. The children from all the schools involved (East Garforth, Micklefield, Green Lane, as well as Strawberry Fields) were a credit to their schools in the way they behaved and interacted. It was also really good to see how they grew in confidence across the day when it came to asserting their arguments. Well done!

    Piano Fantasia

In the final week, Year 4 travelled on the train to Leeds Town Hall to watch 'Piano Fantasia', an performance organised as part of the Leeds International Piano Competition. The children had a fantastic time and, as ever, represented our school brilliantly and made us proud.

  • Picnic lunch

    Sat 19 May 2018 Mr B
Our picnic lunch yesterday was lovely. The weather was kind to us and the children had a great time. Key Stage 1 and F2 enjoyed being out on the 'big' playground with Key Stage 2. Thank you to all the children for helping create such an enjoyable atmosphere and for their fantastic behaviour.
  • Y3/4 football

    Mon 14 May 2018 Mr B

15 boys and girls from years 3 and 4 visited the academy after school today to take part in a football tournament against other local schools. The tournament was organised into two groups of five teams, with the winning team in each group going into a final. Our 'blue' team finished second in their group, with 3 wins (1-0, 1-0, 2-0) and 1 defeat (against eventual group winners St. Benedict's). Our 'green' team came fourth in their group, winning one of their games 1-0.

Thank you to all the players who did their best in sun and who, as ever, represented our school in a way that made us proud of them. Well done East Garforth who were the eventual winners of the tournament.

  • Ian's Mobile Farm

    Mon 14 May 2018 Mr B
On Thursday 10th May, we were lucky to receive a visit in school from 'Ian's Mobile Farm'. Amongst the animals we met there were alpacas, donkeys, goats, chicks and even a tortoise. All children, from F1 to Y6 enjoyed the opportunity to pet some of the animals and to learn a little more about them and their care.
  • Tour de Yorkshire

    Mon 14 May 2018 Mr. B
On Friday 4th May, we were very lucky that the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race came past right outside our school. We went out as a whole school to watch the women's race in the morning. The atmosphere was really good, added to by the decorations along our school railings and lovely 'land-art' created by 1MM. We waved flags and rang bells as the cyclists and entourage raced past. Many children enjoyed the experience so much, they went out after school had finished to watch the men's race too!
