Find out what's happening in school:
After school tonight, 19 of our children braved the wet and the cold to participate in the first ever Garforth Tigers rugby competition. We took three teams along to compete against other local schools. The competition was split into two groups of five teams, with each team playing the other four in their group.
Our 'green' and 'blue' teams kicked off the competition playing each other in Group Two. Our blue team came out top, and went on to win another two of their games, meaning they came second in their group.
In Group One, our 'red' team won all four of their matches, setting them up to meet St. Benedict's in the final. The game was extremely close and the lead see-sawed back and forth, before we finally ran out winners 4 tries to 3.
Thank you to all our players. They gave their all in difficult weather conditions and, as ever, represented our school well. It was particularly heartening to see the progress made in a short time by those boys and girls who were playing rugby competitively for the first time ever. Thank you also to Ian and Garforth Tigers for organising the competition.
Congratulations to our winning team of: Alex, Daniel, Delia, Harry, Kayden and Taylor!
This week, we have been holding our first ever Imagineering Week. Each afternoon, the children from years 1-6 have been moving around school for lessons delivered by curriculum leaders. In these lessons, the focus has been on the skills needed to be a historian, geographer, scientist, artist, designer, programmer, linguist... we even had a 'philosopher' session! We have had some great feedback from the children, and reports from parents of children going home full of ideas, keen to become scientists or working on their design projects.
Another part of our 'Imagineering Week' was the Careers Fair, held in the hall on Wednesday morning. Members of our wider school community, including parents, carers, older siblings, a governor and a staff member's mum (!) came in to speak to the children about their jobs. We had a really good range of roles, including a vet, an electrician, a software engineer, a social worker, a physiotherapist, a masters student, an NHS data manager, a prison officer, a nutritionist, a translator and proofreader, a forensic scientist, a radiographer, an illustrator and graphic designer and a lawyer.
The children really enjoyed meeting and speaking to the visitors, and as ever, our visitors were impressed by how polite, articulate and sensible our children are. Thank you very much to all those able to come to school and contribute to the careers fair.
We hope the Imagineering Week and careers fair have given all our children lots of food for thought for the future!
