  • Our Ofsted visit!

    Wed 27 Mar 2019 Mr B

On March 6th we were visited by an Ofsted inspector. We are very pleased that as a result of this one-day inspection, the Ofsted inspector, Mrs. Rajinder Harrison, judged that we remain a good school. We are very proud of our school and our community, and we are pleased that Mrs. Harrison recognised so many of the great things about Strawberry Fields!

  • Y3/4 Inspire events

    Tue 12 Mar 2019 Mr B

Our Year 3 and 4 classes hosted their Inspire events last week. Our theme this year has been spelling, phonics and reading. Once again, these events were very well attended - thank you to those parents, carers and grandparents who came - and we received lots of positive feedback, a selection of which you can read below.

Did you enjoy the event? If so, why?

Yes, very much. It’s so helpful to know what the children are doing in class so I can help at home.

I would like to see one on Science!

    An Art event!

Do you feel that you learned more about your child’s educational experience at Strawberry Fields?

  • World Book Day

    Tue 12 Mar 2019 Mr B
On Friday, at the end of what had been an incredibly busy week (see below!), we celebrated World Book Day. In keeping with our newly opened library, our dress-up theme was all things related to the sea. It was great that so many children and staff got into the spirit. Thank you very much to those parents, carers and grandparents who had made such an effort with their child's costume. Throughout school, we had fun with Book Day activities, carrying out a book swap and setting the bell to 'Drop Everything And Read'.
  • A busy week!

    Thu 07 Mar 2019 Mr B

This week has been a very busy and exciting week at Strawberry Fields!

First and foremost, we were proud to be able to show-off our school to an Ofsted inspector. We are incredibly grateful for all the lovely messages of support we received from parents, as well as all the hard work the whole staff team contributed and of course, our wonderful children who, as ever, rose to the occasion brilliantly. The report will be published in the coming weeks.

We have also had our Year 3/4 Inspire mornings. Thank you to Mr. Henshall, Mrs. Gerrard and Miss. Davies for hosting these, and for all the parents, carers and grandparents who attended. We will be reviewing the feedback and adding the comments to the website soon.

On Tuesday, we sent two rugby teams to Garforth Academy. Both teams started the competition in a group. One team won all their group games, meaning they qualified for the quarter-finals, which they also won. Had they won the next game, they would have progressed to the city-finals, but unfortunately, they lost a closely contested game to Green Lane by a single try. Both teams represented our school really well.

That evening, around 150 children returned to school in pyjamas and onesies for our bedtime stories evening. It was great to see children enjoying hot chocolate and a book, and an exciting opportunity for some children to work with different teachers.

On Wednesday, three of our Year Five children represented the school in the Leeds Debating Competition. Miss Hall reported back on how proud she was of how confident and eloquent they were. On the same day, Our Year 4s went to Garforth Academy for the annual Year Four cluster skipping competition. They finished joint third of the five schools involved.

Finally, on Wednesday afternoon our school library was reopened. It was great to welcome so many visitors, including representatives from Garforth Lions and the Friends of Strawberry Fields, both groups having raised money to pay for the books, artwork and refurbishment. It was lovely to hear from Garforth Lions about how some of our old books are now being read by children in a school in Sri Lanka! We were also proud to host governors, school volunteers, representatives from the local council, Garforth Peace Flame and Dayspring Church. Our thanks to the artist Stephen Waterhouse, who came along to unveil his beautiful artwork. Classes of children have been visiting the library and saying 'wow' since!

What a week... just World Book day left on Friday...!

  • Y3 curling

    Sat 02 Mar 2019 Mr B

We had more sporting success this week! Twelve children from year 3 went with Mr. Henshall and Mrs. Gerrard to participate in a curling competition. They were divided into three teams, playing thirteen games between them. Of these games, they won ten, meaning they finished the tournament as joint winners alongside St. Benedict's!

As ever, we were very proud of the fantastic attitude and behaviour of our children, and it was a pleasure to be able to introduce the children to a totally new sport.
