Find out what's happening in school:
Two of our Year 1/2 classes, 2MC and 1/2CE, had their Inspire events at the end of January and beginning of February. The focus was on phonics, with the teachers modelling a Sounds Write lesson and then giving parents an opportunity to read with their children, using some of the techniques and phrases they had learned in the model lesson.
We were so grateful that so many parents, carers and grandparents were able to attend. As usual, the feedback was uniformly positive. A small sample of the comments can be read here.
Friday 3rd February was 'Music Day' at Strawberry Fields! It was brilliant! We were visited by two bands, Maia and Trio Globo, and a musician and singer named Andrea Alonso. All our guests played for our children during a morning assembly, when we were also treated to a brilliant performance from our school violin group - some of whom have only been learning for 3 weeks! Thank you so much to Mrs Roberts for all her work with them.
Every class in school (from F1 right up to Year 6) then had a music workshop with one of our visitors, as well as having a chance to listen to and discuss some music.
We ended the day with another assembly, where Maia played a few songs, our school choir sang and William for Year 3 impressed everyone with his guitar playing. Some children in Y5/6 also performed some short pieces they had created during one of their workshops.
Children and staff alike agreed it was a great day, and hopefully we sent all the children home enthused about music and keen to think about learning an instrument themselves!
