  • Steel pan drumming

    Thu 30 Mar 2017 Mr. B
On Monday afternoon, Ms. Sanders took some of our children over to Garforth Academy to take part in a steel pan drumming workshop. The children learned lots in a very short space of time, and finished with a performance! We're hoping we can make this a regular thing.
  • Y1/2 African Day

    Fri 24 Mar 2017 Mr. B
Last Monday, Key Stage One held an 'African Day' as part of their topic. There was drumming (including a performance for parents), food and crafts. All the children had a fantastic time and learned lots more to add to their knowledge.
  • Year Five boys' football

    Thu 09 Mar 2017 Mr. B.

Last night, our Year Five boys' football team played a cup match against St. Anthony's Primary School. Our team played well and took control of the game early. At half-time, we led 3-0, thanks to two goals from Charlie and one from Nathan. The second half was a little more even. Sam was called on to make some fantastic saves in our goal, but Nathan scored his second goal to complete the final 4-0 scoreline.

Nathan was 'Man-of-the-Match', but it was difficult decision because the whole team played so well!

Well done boys! We are now in the quarter final!

  • Y5/6 debating competition

    Wed 08 Mar 2017 Mr. B

Six of our children took part in a debating competition at Iveson Primary school yesterday morning. The proposal was 'Children up to the age of 11 should be able to choose their own bedtime'.

Seth, James and Holly were arguing in favour of this proposal. They won their initial debate, taking them into a 'play-off' for the finals, where they lost in a very close debate.

Charlie, Emily and Bailey were arguing against this proposal. Once again, their debate was close but they did not win through to the next round.

We were exceptionally proud of all six children - they spoke clearly and eloquently and worked so hard to prepare their arguments, practising and improving them at home overnight and in the car all the way there!

    Well done all of you!

  • Year 1 and 2 Inspire event

    Mon 06 Mar 2017 Mr. B

The Inspire mornings we held at school last week for Years 1 and 2 were once again very successful and well-attended. Thank you to all who came! The theme was ‘challenge’ and we received lots of positive feedback. Read some of the quotes and see lots of photos from the event below:

“Thank you – very good. It is encouraging for the children to see their parents get involved at school.”

“I knew ‘challenge’ was important, but was good to see illustrations of what this means in practice.”

“It showed the children through the activities that if it doesn’t work first time, try again!”

“A big thank you to all the staff for taking the time to put this together. Please do it more often!”

  • World Book Day

    Thu 02 Mar 2017 Mr. B

We have had lots of World Book Day fun at Strawberry Fields today! Thank you so much to all children, parents, carers and staff who made such a great effort with their costumes. There have been lots of fun activities going on around school, including a Mad Hatter's tea party and a special assembly to award prizes!

Over course of the week, all our children have visited Garforth Library and have been able to take out a book to bring back to school. Lots of our children have also had the chance to meet the residents of Augustus Court. We have been so proud of their confidence, respect and manners when meeting the people there. Many of the residents enjoyed having a chat with our children and hearing them read and we have had some very heart-warming feedback! We are planning regular visits to Augustus Court in the future.

Now, we would encourage all our children to get to a bookshop and spend their World Book Day voucher!
