Our Y3/4 dodgeball players had a brilliant time at our annual dodgeball tournament. We were really proud that one of our teams managed to come second, but even more importantly, their behaviour, manners and honesty when they were out were exemplary as ever. Thank you very much to Miss Evison and Miss Chermside for taking the children, and to Flynn in Year Six for going along to support and to make notes for a sports report!
It has been a busy term and it has been wonderful to get back to doing the sorts of exciting things we were doing before the pandemic struck.
This term, our Early Years classes have been visited by some real-life hedgehogs, which were in the care of Garforth Hedgehogs. The children learned lots about these lovely little creatures and their habits.
Key Stage 1 enjoyed trips to Clip n' Climb earlier in the term. They had an amazing time. We were proud of how well-mannered and sensible they were, as well as how many of them challenged themselves to conquer their fears and push themselves to go just a little further.
Our Year 5/6 children really enjoyed a virtual author visit with Tom Palmer, which was linked to Remembrance Day. The work was all about the Barnbow Lasses, workers in a local munitions factory which was the scene of a terrible accident. Many of them had seen the plaque commemorating this event and were completely gripped to hear the whole story.
We have really enjoyed getting back to competing against other local schools in different sports, too. Miss Chermside took teams of Key Stage 2 children to cross country and indoor athletics competitions, where the children competed well, showed excellent sporting manners, and made us proud of them all. There are plenty more sporting events lined up for children right across school to take part in over the rest of the year!
Our eco-council has been busy. They made climate posters and presentations which were taken by a member of our local community, Jacqueline Simpson, to the COP26 summit in Glasgow. The children had met with Jacqueline before she went and she was very impressed with how knowledgeable the children were about the enviornment, and with their passion to look after our world. Their work received some wonderful feedback from all kinds of people!
Last Friday, we were delighted to be asked to sing at the Garforth Lights switch-on event. We took a choir of 25 children along to sing, who had been working really hard in school to learn a range of Christmas Carols. We sang along with Garforth Brass to O Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night and various others. The children also sang a completely acapella 'Love Shone Down'. We were so proud of the children. It must have been daunting to stand on the stage and see all those faces watching them, but they sang their hearts out, smiled for the audience and looked tremendous in their Christmas jumpers, Santa hats, reindeer antlers etc...
As ever, our children represented our school fantastically. Thank you to the organisers for asking the children to sing, and for giving them all a selection box as thanks. Thanks too, to Garforth Brass for working with us.
