  • Christmas celebrations

    Fri 21 Dec 2018 Mr. B

It has been a lovely end to 2018 at Strawberry Fields and a fun week of festivity.

This week, we have enjoyed nativities performed by both Foundation Stage and Key Stage One. Foundation Stage performed 'I Spy Christmas'. It was fantastic, the children were so confident and read their lines brilliantly. Key Stage One's show was 'Tinsel and Teatowels'. Every single child came onstage and read some lines or performed in a song or dance. Even standing at the back of the hall, it was possible to hear every single line of dialogue.

It was truly moving to see the talents, hard work and progress of some of our youngest children across both performances. Thank you to all staff who worked hard to teach lines, songs and dances, and produce scenery, props and costumes.

On Thursday, many of our children enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner in the hall and then on the final day, we had our carol service at St. Mary's. The children once again did themselves proud, with beautiful singing that was so loud it drowned out the backing tracks! It is clear 'Love Shone Down' is a new school favourite - the children nearly lifted off the church's roof on the chorus of this one.

Finally, thank you to all our staff for working so hard all term, and thank you to all our children for maintaining their high standards of work and behaviour right to the end.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all our children, families and staff, as well as everyone in our wider community.

  • Nursery Visit to Beetlebank Farm

    Wed 19 Dec 2018 Mr. B
On Friday, our nursery children enjoyed an exciting trip to Beetlebank Farm near York. The children had lots of fun meeting the animals and following the 'Stick Man' trail, which linked nicely with the book they have been studying in class. The children all had a wonderful time and it was lovely to be able to give the youngest children in our school this exciting opportunity to go out together as a class.
  • Music update

    Wed 19 Dec 2018 Mr. B

In the build-up to Christmas, our children have been involved in a number of exciting singing events. A small choir of our Year 5 children took part in the Leeds Schools Music Association concert at the Town Hall on December 4th. It was an incredible experience to be part of a larger choir of over 300 children from schools around Leeds, and to play with the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, who were incredible.

On Monday 17th, a group of singers took part in the Garforth Library Christmas Social, playing along with GULP (Garforth Ukelele Players) and other members of our community.

It is great to be able to be part of these experience that use music to bring together schools and communities and we are looking forward to our carol concert on the last day of term, and to participating in 'Young Voices' at Sheffield Arena in January.
