We will be trialling our ‘Fitness Fifteen’ this year. It is based on the popular ‘Daily Mile’ which began in Scotland and is now used in many schools across the country. Even when they do not have PE, each child will do fifteen minutes of physical activity each day. It is designed to increase your child’s fitness level and has also been shown to positively affect behaviour and self-esteem. Fitness Fifteen is about participation, not competition.
For your child to take part, they will need a pair of running shoes. The Fitness Fifteen should last fifteen minutes from start to finish, meaning the children will not get fully changed, though we would also advise you to send your child with a thin waterproof coat, as teachers will still want to complete their Fitness Fifteen outside in all but the very worst weather conditions.
