News round up

The finals few days of term were filled with all kinds of exciting events!

Y3/4 Light and Dark work

On Friday 18th May, Y3/4 transformed our hall into a European Cafe and took the opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic work they have produced as part of their 'Light and Dark' topic.  A large number of parents and carers attended. Thank you to the Y3/4 staff and children for working so hard to create this event and the work included in it - as a school, we were extremely proud. It was brilliant!

Brownlee Foundation Triathlon

Some of our Y5 children attended the Brownlee Foundation 'mini triathlon' at the John Smeaton Leisure Centre on Monday 21st May. The event required the children to swim 30m, cycle 800m and run 300m. All the children came back raving about the experience and we are now considering how to ensure more children can access this event next year.

Debating

On Tuesday 22nd May, five of our Year 4 children went to East Garforth Primary School for a debating competition held amongst the local schools. The format of the competition involved the children being put into mixed teams and working alongside children from other primary schools they had not met before. The children from all the schools involved (East Garforth, Micklefield, Green Lane, as well as Strawberry Fields) were a credit to their schools in the way they behaved and interacted. It was also really good to see how they grew in confidence across the day when it came to asserting their arguments. Well done!

Piano Fantasia

In the final week, Year 4 travelled on the train to Leeds Town Hall to watch 'Piano Fantasia', an performance organised as part of the Leeds International Piano Competition. The children had a fantastic time and, as ever, represented our school brilliantly and made us proud.
