Yesterday was our 2019 Music Day. The day began with an assembly, in which some of our visiting musicians performed. These included Trio Globo, a band of local musicians who used a variety of instruments to perform folk music from around the world, GULP (the Garforth UkuLele Players), and Mrs. Roberts, the violin teacher from Garforth Academy.
Trio Globo then worked with all children from Y1-6 on a 'Music Around the World' workshop. GULP visited our youngest children in F1 and F2 to perform a few simple songs, and then taught our Y3 class how to play a few simple songs on the ukulele. It was amazing how quickly the children learned a few quick chords! Mrs. Roberts worked with a small group of Year 3 and 4 children on some violin basics, who were then able to perform what they had learned to Key Stage 1.
In between all these activities, classes spent the day engaged in all kinds of musical activities and it was great to hear the sounds of singing and instrument in and around school all day.
In the afternoon, a singing teacher visited to run a fun singing session with all the children, introducing them to exciting warm-ups and some easy-to-sing songs.
