After school tonight, 19 of our children braved the wet and the cold to participate in the first ever Garforth Tigers rugby competition. We took three teams along to compete against other local schools. The competition was split into two groups of five teams, with each team playing the other four in their group.
Our 'green' and 'blue' teams kicked off the competition playing each other in Group Two. Our blue team came out top, and went on to win another two of their games, meaning they came second in their group.
In Group One, our 'red' team won all four of their matches, setting them up to meet St. Benedict's in the final. The game was extremely close and the lead see-sawed back and forth, before we finally ran out winners 4 tries to 3.
Thank you to all our players. They gave their all in difficult weather conditions and, as ever, represented our school well. It was particularly heartening to see the progress made in a short time by those boys and girls who were playing rugby competitively for the first time ever. Thank you also to Ian and Garforth Tigers for organising the competition.
Congratulations to our winning team of: Alex, Daniel, Delia, Harry, Kayden and Taylor!
